Larry & Jean Johnson, Founders / Directors
LARRY JOHNSON: It is often said that life begins at 40, but the truth is, life begins when you have an encounter with Jesus. This was the case for me. At the age of 16 years, a friend took me to a small house in Fort Dodge, IA. It was there that a dear lady explained how God could accept me. She said, “You must repent of your sins and believe the work that Jesus did for you on the cross”. Even at that young age, I had already committed enough sins to be very remorseful. And so as I prayed to accept Jesus into my heart, a tremendous outpouring of His Love completely engulfed me. I wept unashamedly. From that time on, God gave me a love (His Love) for people. I wanted to help people. And as I grew in my faith, I not only wanted to help others, but also, let them know of God’s EXTREME love for them and His wonderful plan for their lives. I’ll never forget the day I was just minding my own business, driving down the road in my pick-up truck, when all of sudden just before my eyes…well more on that next time. John 14:21b...He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.
JEAN JOHNSON: When I heard the pastor say, “Go out into the woods and sit there until God speaks to you,” I thought, “God is never going to say anything to some 14 year-old country girl”; but in obedience, I walked into the woods of Doliver Park, sat down on a rock and prayed to God. Admittedly, I didn’t expect to hear anything! However, in a short time, a single word was impressed in my heart and spirit. That word was “CHINA”! In fact, it was so strong, that it seemed audible! I was so surprised that I asked God, “Is there anything else?” And again, I would “hear” “CHINA”, “CHINA”. From that time, I believed God wanted me to be a missionary in China. However, my parents didn’t share that view at all! And no wonder, China was closed to the world in the early 1960’s. Few people ventured to travel there and certainly no teenager in her right mind! It really did seem like a pipe dream. And so the dream was locked in my heart…until just the right time.
When God speaks a Word, He brings it to pass. At just the right time, He opened the doors to China. He made a way, when there seemed to be no way. His timing is always “perfect!” So if God has spoken something to your heart, BE FAITHFUL, BE PATIENT, AND IT WILL COME TO PASS! 2 Samuel 22:25-26a. The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in his sight. To the faithful you show yourself faithful. Now God has expanded our tent stakes to include Canada and Liberia, West Africa. And it seems He is not finished yet. We will go throughout the whole world, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, until the Lord brings us "home". Glory!
